FAQs

Your questions, answered.

It’s so normal to have questions, especially if you’ve never tried therapy before, or aren’t sure what to expect. This page is here to give you straight answers about how I work, what counselling can (and can’t) do, and the logistics of getting started.

About the work we’ll do together:

  • You won’t just talk, and I won’t just listen. Together we figure out what’s going on underneath the surface. You’ll leave sessions with insights, practical tools, and support that’s specific to you. Many clients say things like, “I never thought of it that way” or “That really helped.” Real change is possible.

  • Yes, it can. There’s usually a reason why certain arguments keep coming up. In therapy, we look at what’s really going on underneath the fight. When you both feel seen and heard, the cycle can finally start to shift.

  • You’ve probably been trying for a long time. You’ve read the books, maybe talked to a friend, and pushed through. That’s strength, not failure. Sometimes a different perspective makes all the difference. You don’t have to do this alone.

  • Not at all. You don’t need to be falling apart to want something better. A lot of people I work with are doing okay on the outside but feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or stuck. You don’t have to wait for things to get worse before getting support.

  • That’s something I hear a lot. You might feel off, flat, short-tempered, or just not like you. Maybe you’re tired of pretending everything’s fine. That feeling is worth paying attention to, and it’s a good place to begin.

Practical things to know:

  • In-person in Departure Bay, Nanaimo, or online from anywhere (see below for details about house calls). If you're coming in-person, a heads-up that I share my space with a cat named Dave. He usually keeps to himself, but if you have allergies or aren't a fan of feline company, it’s good to know.

  • Unfortunately not. However online, phone or house call sessions are available.

  • Yes! Whether you're juggling a lot or just prefer the comfort of home, I can come to you. No need to tidy up or worry about hosting. Home visits are available in and around Nanaimo for an additional fee. Feel free to ask if your location qualifies.

  • Most clients start weekly, then shift to bi-weekly as things evolve, but it's up to you.

  • Evenings, yes. Saturday morning is available by request and on a first-come-first-serve basis.

  • Individual 60-minute session: $140 + GST

    Individual 90-minute session: $210 + GST

    Couples 90-minute session: $225 + GST

  • Please check with your provider to see if your benefit plan includes coverage for Registered Therapeutic Counsellors (RTC). Receipts are provided for all sessions.

  • I have a few sliding scale spots available. If cost is a barrier, feel free to reach out and we can chat about options.
